Limevale Lending, a small-business funding broker in Trenton, New Jersey, arranges inventory financing through lending partners for stores and distributors buying stock ahead of sales. The goods usually secure the funding, and repayment follows sell-through or a set schedule. Partners review stock records and supplier terms, decide, and set rates and terms.
| Pays for | Goods paid for ahead of the sale |

How inventory financing works
Money is advanced against goods on order or already on your shelves. The goods act as collateral, so the partner cares about what they are, how quickly they sell and what they would fetch if sold off. As you sell, you pay the funding down, either per item, from a share of sales, or through a fixed schedule agreed at the start.
Because the partner is lending against goods, expect it to value them below what you paid. Fast-moving, easily resold stock is usually viewed more favorably than specialized or perishable lines.
Liens, public filings and the goods as security
Most inventory deals give the partner a security interest in the stock, and partners commonly record that interest in a public filing so other creditors can see it. If you already have a loan with a broad lien on business assets, a new inventory partner will see it and may need the existing lender to agree. List every current lender and advance provider at the start; surprises here slow everything down.
Floor plan financing, defined
Floor plan financing is a form of inventory financing for high-value items held one by one, such as vehicles, boats or large appliances. The partner pays for each unit, the dealer repays when that unit sells, and the partner checks stock periodically. It suits dealers with serial-numbered goods rather than shops with thousands of small items.
Stock funding against a credit line or working capital
A revolving line of credit is more flexible if your stock purchases are frequent and modest. Inventory financing fits large, discrete orders, such as a bulk buy at a supplier discount, where tying the funding to the goods makes sense. Working capital financing covers the wider gap if stock is only one of several bills. The full comparison is on the six-route page.
Stock-heavy businesses in Mercer County, NJ
Retail trade had 1,179 employer establishments in Mercer County in 2023, the third-largest count of any sector, and 47.7 percent of them had fewer than five employees (CBP 2023). Wholesale trade is smaller by count, 372 establishments, but its annual payroll of about $3.48 billion was the largest of any sector in the county. Distributors carry stock at a scale where timing between buying and getting paid matters a great deal.
Our post on inventory financing versus supply chain financing for Mercer County distributors goes further on the wholesale side. County data for the office city is on the Trenton, NJ page, and sector pages are at funding by sector.
A worked illustration
Hypothetical arithmetic only: a shop places a $30,000 seasonal order. If the partner advances against part of the stock's cost and the owner funds the rest, the owner's own cash is what covers the gap between the advance and the invoice. If the goods typically sell over four months, a repayment schedule that runs past that point leaves room for slower weeks; one that ends sooner squeezes cash before the stock has turned.
Two questions settle most stock requests: how fast does this line sell, and what would it fetch in a clearance sale? Answer both before you ask a partner.
Common pitfalls with stock funding
- Funding slow-moving lines that tie up the facility for months
- Forgetting freight, duties and storage when sizing the order
- Mixing financed and unfinanced stock with no way to tell them apart
- Agreeing to stock counts or reporting you cannot keep up with
Records that help
- A current stock list with cost and quantity
- Turnover or sell-through by category for the past year
- Supplier invoices showing the terms you buy on
- Business bank statements
- A list of existing loans, liens and advances
